Barcelona won by two goals in the match of the 32nd round of the Spanish championship, against Getafe, on foreign ground, thanks to the successes signed by Fermin Lopez and Marcus Rashford, both decisive moments being recorded on the counterattack. The “blaugrana” group achieved a success that brings them closer to the title with number 29, being currently 11 points away from Real Madrid, with five games left to be played in the current domestic competition season. The Catalans also won for the first time in five matches at the “Coliseum” stadium, in all competitions.

Getafe and Barcelona faced off in the 32nd round of La Liga at the Estadio Coliseum Alfonso Perez outside Madrid in a match that had huge stakes for the Catalan team in terms of getting closer to winning the Spanish championship, while the host team was fighting to consolidate a position that would allow them to play in European cups starting next season. In the overall standings, the team trained by Jose Luis Bordalas was in sixth place before this match, unlike the “blaugrana” group who occupied the first position, eight points ahead of the rival from the Spanish capital, Real Madrid.

In the intermediate round, which was played in the middle of last week, “Los Azulones” had passed Real Sociedad, away, by a goal difference, and the Catalans would defeat Celta Vigo, final score 1-0, thanks to the success signed from the penalty spot by Lamine Yamal, a player who was injured and can no longer play until the end of the current season. In addition to the absence of the Iberian right-winger, Hansi Flick could not rely on the services of Raphinha, Andreas Christensen, Marc Bernal and Eric Garcia at the time of this match, the last of those mentioned being suspended.

Jose Luis Bordalas could not count on Juanmi, Borja Mayoral and Zaid Romero in a match that put his team “face to face” with an opponent that had defeated them in the round match of the current La Liga season, final score 3-0. However, at the “Estadio Coliseum Alfonso Perez”, Barcelona had failed to overcome Getafe in the last five direct duels, recording one defeat and four draws. The team next to Madrid had won three of the last four matches that took place on home soil, while the Catalans had won seven of the last nine away games before this match.

The first goal opportunity appeared in the fourth minute of the game, when Pedri’s cross reached Robert Lewandowski, whose header landed in the net of the goal defended by David Soria. Roony Bardghji had the chance to open the scoring in the 35th minute of the game, when he received a pass from Jules Kounde and shot to the far corner from inside the box, but his execution went just wide of the posts defended by David Soria.

The opening of the score occurred in the last minute of the first half, when Pedri’s successful recovery led to a “genius” pass sent by the former Las Palmas player, and, at the end, Fermin Lopez was there who, from near the goal, sent wide, on foot, to the far corner. The first opportunity of the second half belonged to the team prepared by Hansi Flick, Jules Kounde throwing a ball into the mouth of the opposing goal, on foot, where Dani Olmo resumed from the first, but the Getafe goalkeeper rejected it out of the field.

Later, Joao Cancelo crossed to the near post, and the French right-back of the Catalans deflected, with a header, a few millimeters away from the opposing goals. Marcus Rashford crossed to the far post from a free kick from the edge of the box, and Gerard Martin tried to score with a header, but his execution was easily caught by David Soria. Fermin Lopez received a deep pass from the same Pedri, and after a short dribble inside, the Spanish central midfielder finished with a shot sent to the near corner, but the ball ended up in the side netting.

Marcus Rashford scored the second goal of the match on a counterattack when he received a pass from Robert Lewandowski, and the one-on-one duel with the home goalkeeper was handled properly by the English footballer, who calmly sent the ball down to double the advantage of the “blaugrana”. Thanks to this victory, the Catalans achieved their first triumph at the Getafe arena after five consecutive duels ended without any success, being 11 points behind Real Madrid in the general standings. In the next round, the “blaugrana” will play in Pamplona, against Osasuna, while “los azulones” will play against Rayo Vallecano, at home.
